Using the Sharing Center
LastPass provides a dedicated feature called the Sharing Center, which is designed specifically for sharing passwords and other secure information. Avoid sharing passwords through insecure means like email, text messages, or writing them down on paper.
To access the Sharing Center:
Log in to your LastPass account.
Click on the "Sharing Center" icon in the left sidebar.
Sharing Individual Passwords
Instead of sharing your entire LastPass vault, share only the specific passwords or items that are necessary for the recipient. Sharing individual items limits the exposure of your other sensitive information.
To share an individual item:
Open the Sharing Center
Click "Share Items" and select the item(s) you want to share.
Enter the recipient's email address.
Setting Permissions
LastPass allows you to control what the recipient can do with the shared item. You can choose between three permission levels: view, edit, or manage. Be cautious about granting too many permissions, especially for sensitive accounts.
View: Allows the recipient to see the password without making changes.
Edit: Allows the recipient to view and edit the password.
Manage: Grants full control, including sharing with others. Use this sparingly and only with trusted individuals.
Revoking Access When No Longer Needed
Regularly review your shared items in LastPass and revoke access when it's no longer necessary. This helps maintain control over your passwords and minimizes the risk associated with ongoing access.
To revoke access:
Open the Sharing Center.
Click "Manage Shared Items" and remove access for the selected recipient.
Creating Folders
Log in to your LastPass account.
Once logged in, click on the "Vault" option in the left-hand menu.
In your Vault, you'll see various categories on the left, including "Passwords," "Notes," and "Security Challenge." Under the "Passwords" section, you'll find a "+ New Folder" button.
Click on "+ New Folder."
Give your folder a name and optionally add a description.
Click "Save" to create the folder.
Organizing Passwords into Folders
To move an existing password into a folder, navigate to your Vault and locate the password you want to move.
Hover your mouse over the password entry, and you'll see a "More Options" (three vertical dots) icon appear.
Click on "More Options" and select "Move to Folder."
Choose the folder you want to move the password to and click "Move."
Managing Folders
To edit a folder's name or description, go to your Vault and find the folder you want to edit.
Hover your mouse over the folder name, and the "More Options" icon will appear.
Click on "More Options" and select "Edit Folder."
Make your desired changes and click "Save."
Sharing Folders
LastPass allows you to share folders with trusted individuals, which can be useful for sharing passwords or notes.
To share a folder, locate the folder in your Vault.
Click on the folder to open it.
In the top-right corner, you'll see a "Share" button. Click on it.
Enter the email address of the person you want to share the folder with.
Set the permissions (view, edit, or manage) for the shared folder.
Click "Add" to share the folder.
