Network-registered Computer does not pickup working connection (IP Phone may not be registered)
NOTE: This information is primarily for Service Desk staff.
Problem
- The computer or other networked device picks up an 87 or 169 ip address.
- Plugging dock ethernet into the back of the voice over IP (VOIP) phone causes the connection to reset.
Environment
- Computer or other networked device is registered at http://registration.pomona.edu .
- Computer or other networked device is connected via ethernet to an IP phone.
- LEDs around ethernet port on computer or other networked device are lighted and/or blinking.
- New phone that was not registered with the campus network.
Solution
The IP Phone, to which the computer or other networked device is connected via ethernet, is not registered with the campus network registration service.
Log into BCM and check the MAC address for the phone. Check the following:
- Should be set to 'Registered Host as Device'.
- The 'Role:' should be set to 'VoIP-PHONE-ROLE'.
- The phone 'Device Type' should be 'IP Phone'.
- Physical Address 'Media Type' should be set to 'Wired'.
