Connect to the residential network (dorms via wired ethernet)

NOTE: The information below is relevant to faculty/staff offices.

What you need

An Ethernet cable (also called a patch cable)

You will need a CAT5e or CAT6 cable (sold at all office supply stores, e.g. Huntley Bookstore, Best Buy, Staples, etc.)
Keep in mind that your desk and your room's Ethernet jack plate may be on opposite sides of the room from one another. A 25ft to 50ft cable may be necessary.

Plugging in

On your computer, locate your Ethernet port. It looks like a double-wide phone jack. Locate your room's jack plate.

Ethernet jacks are orange (possibly blue).
The grey ones are phone jacks (possibly white). They may look too big for phone cables. But, a phone cable will still fit.

NOTE:

In double occupancy rooms, two of the Ethernet jacks are activated by default (additional ports can be activated upon request).
In single occupancy rooms, one of the Ethernet jacks is activated by default (additional ports can be activated upon request)
The left Ethernet jack is normally the initial port activated by default.

Test it out
Open up a web browser and go to registration.pomona.edu (you should be able to get here even if you aren't registered). You should now be all set to register your computer.
