Problem
When printing on a Mac or setting up a new printer on a Mac, the following error appears:
- 'hpPreProcessing.filter will damage your computer'
- "fax.backend will damage your computer."
Environment
- Mac OS 10.15 (Catalina) and above
Solution
- Make sure all Mac OS security updates (not upgrades) are installed.
- Renamed the “hp” folder at the following location to “BACKUP-hp”:
/Library/Printers/hp
- Install the 'HP Printer Drivers for macOS', available at:
https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US
NOTE:
If the steps above do not resolve the problem, you may need to 'Reset print system'. Unfortunately, this will removed all the installed printers from your Mac (they will have to be reinstalled). Thus, use this option as a last resort. The instructions for resetting the print system are at:
